16-Condition Commission on Artificial Intelligence and Education and learning Founded

The Southern Regional Instruction Board (SREB) has established a new Commission on Artificial Intelligence and Education and learning, convening “leaders in training and business enterprise to chart a training course for how AI is used in lecture rooms and how to put together a workforce that is being remodeled by technology.” South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and West Virginia’s Marshall University President Brad D. Smith will co-chair the two-year fee.

SREB’s 16 states will offer fee members from governors’ places of work, instruction and workforce businesses, K–12 and postsecondary school, company executives, managers, and leaders. A record of commissioners, information about the first assembly, and obligations of its committees will be announced in the coming weeks, SREB said in a release.

The commission’s to start with meeting, to be held in March 2024, will be to evaluate exploration and marketplace data and hear from schooling professionals. It will then make emphasis tips for the commission to deal with in these normal parts:

  • AI in training and mastering in K–12 and postsecondary institutions
  • Developing AI policies in K–12 schools, schools, and universities and
  • How to prepare pupils for professions involving AI.

“We need to be proactive now, because AI is fundamentally shifting the classroom and the office,” stated Stephen L. Pruitt, SREB president. “The fee will bring us jointly for a roadmap on preparing college students for this environment in which AI is a actuality.”

SREB is a non-partisan, nonprofit interstate compact headquartered in Atlanta. It serves Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Ga, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Its operate is funded by appropriations from its member states, contracts and grants from foundations, and from area, state and federal businesses.
