FTC Investigating OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Possible Consumer Protection Law Violations

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an investigation into OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT, to determine if it has violated consumer protection laws. This investigation comes as the FTC recently withdrew its trial against Microsoft’s pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

In a 20-page demand letter, the commission expressed concerns about OpenAI’s data security practices and the potential impact of ChatGPT on users’ reputations. OpenAI will be required to provide detailed accounts of user complaints regarding false information provided by the chatbot.
