The One UI 5.1 update by Samsung was rolled out during the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, in February 2023. Despite the many positives of the update, it also seems to have one major drawback, which Samsung has also confirmed now. The keyboard app seems to be draining faster with the new update.

Samsung confirmed the same on its community page for Malaysia. At the same time, it also announced a fix for the said problem, which will be in the form of another update for the devices.

Samsung Confirms Keyboard App Draining Battery After OneUI 5.1 Update

Samsung’s Keyboard App Drains Battery Faster After Update

According to the page, the new One UI 5.1 update has caused a detrimental effect on the battery life of Galaxy devices. The company in this statement also shared that this isn’t of much worry, as users can simply fix the problem by updating the keyboard app to the latest version, launched on March 2.

One can also download the most updated version from the PlayStore. The latest version is the v 5.6.10.31. Samsung galaxy smartphone and tablet users would benefit from getting this latest version.

For the uninitiated, to update the keyboard app and use the latest version, all one has to do is find the Galaxy Store > Menu > Updates > Samsung Keyboard > Tap the Update button. Point to note here is that if your keyboard app is already up to date with the latest version, no update will show here. Galaxy store automatically updates system apps by default, so for many, this would have happened by itself.

Samsung Galaxy One UI 5.1 update: Highlights

While Samsung has confirmed that the keyboard app battery drainage was happening, what is unclear is if it was the only app contributing to the overall battery drainage that users had noticed.

The One UI 5.1 update brought with it an enhanced camera experience, complete with a new Expert RAW feature for high-quality images.

The update also brings an improved DeX mode, where you can connect your phone to a large display to make it work like a PC. The new update allows users to resize windows using the splitter in the middle of the screen.

The new DeX app also allows users to control Galaxy smartphones with the same mouse used for the Galaxy Book, making things a lot more seamless.
