As Google prepares to unveil the Pixel Fold, a new rumor has surfaced, suggesting that the upcoming foldable will feature a new display tech from Samsung that will rival its own panels for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5.
Pixel Fold to Get Shiny New M13 OLED Panel
According to a report by The Elec, the Google Pixel Fold will be equipped with a new OLED display from Samsung Display, called the M13. This will make it the first device to ship with the M13 material set.

While it’s unclear how M13 will prove better than M12, some improvements can be expected. Surprisingly, the M13’s predecessor, the M12, will reportedly be used in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Additionally, Samsung Display’s M12 material set will also be employed by all four iPhone 15 models. Last year’s Pro models also used M12, while the base models got the plain ol’ M11 material set.
Samsung Display’s M14 Panel Also in the Works
As the Google Pixel Fold gets a new M13 OLED panel, there’s word that Samsung Display is also working on another new OLED material set called the M14. According to the report, the M14 material set will be used in the iPhone 16 lineup which is expected to launch by the end of 2024.
Google Pixel Fold Rumors and Launch Timeline
The report adds that the Google Pixel Fold will debut in the latter half of 2023, which goes against previous rumors of a mid-June launch. We can expect more details to surface when the device is unveiled at the upcoming Google I/O event.
According to past rumors, the Pixel Fold could sport a 7.6-inch inner display with an aspect ratio of 21.6:18. The device will have an outer display measuring 5.8 inches.
The foldable will likely feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security. The Pixel Fold will reportedly get a triple camera setup at the rear. It is also rumored to be heavier than the Z Fold 4, indicating that the upcoming phone could get a larger battery unit.
